Musical Artists Take "the parasite" Vinyl
Lunacy Records Hosts Musical Recording Event

Dave Copenhaver and Craig Smith

Lunacy Records announced today the release of “The Parasite: A Sound and Text Composition. ” Lunacy Records is a recording label in Oklahoma City, OK with more than 250 releases to date. “The Parasite: A Sound and Text Composition ” was created by the artist Craig Smith and musician Dave Copenhaver and recorded during the Spring of 2011 at Studio Seven, Oklahoma City. The piece is a  musical song cycle adapted from the work of French philosopher Michel Serres, and features spoken word adpations  and musical soundscapes adapted from Serres’ 1980 book entitled: The Parasite.

The adaption of excerpts from Michel Serres text into a soundscape and vocal performance creates a profoundly imaginative aural composition. The energy of combining raw intuition and talent with years of musical experience has helped this recording to be both a highly entertaining and insightful experience of sound. The recordings were engineered by Copenhaver and will be pressed on a limited edition 180-gram vinyl with sleeve artwork created by Smith. The project will also be pressed and available as a compact disc.

Mayfest Announces 2011 Headliner Phil Brown's Guitar Army

Phil Brown's Guitar Army

Tulsa, OK., April 12, 2011 - Phil Brown storms Tulsa with his Guitar Army on Saturday night May 21 to headline Tulsa's 2011 Mayfest with his "Jimi Project" Tribute to the songwriting genius of Jimi Hendrix. Showtime is 9:30pm on the festival's main stage on the Williams Green.

The "Guitar Army" is led by Brown, a critically acclaimed guitar-slinger/road warrior who fans and critics alike have placed in the guitar hero ranks of Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck over the years. Brown's performance credits have included stints on guitar and vocals for such notable bands as Little Feat and Kool & the Gang, and his original compositions have graced recordings by Eric Clapton, Pat Benatar, Kiss's Ace Frehley, Cher, Journey's Steve Perry, Kix and Bonnie Tyler, to name a few. Brown moved his command headquarters to Oklahoma from Austin in recent months, and is thrilled to be appearing at Mayfest. (He has fond memories of his past dates with Little Feat at Cain's.) Brown's "Jimi Project" CD, an inventive reworking of a dozen classic Hendrix compositions, was an instant critical success on its release in 2006, and is still a staple on progressive rock and satellite radio stations here and in Europe, as are several of Brown's other recent recordings. The "Jimi Project" album will be performed by Brown's Guitar Army in its entirety at Tulsa's Mayfest, along with several other Phil Brown gems and a surprise or two from what Brown describes as the "Great Classic Rock & Roll Songbook."

The "Guitar Army" includes three additional "guitarist's guitarists" in its front ranks: Ray McCarty, a veteran of stints with Hendrix drummer Buddy Miles as well as the Eric Burdon (the vocalist for "The Animals") band and recording sessions with John Lee Hooker; Frank Harrison, another Buddy Miles sideman who also performs with the current touring incarnation of Thin Lizzy; and Jasco Coomes, an explosive jazz-blues-fusion guitarist and Phil Brown protégé.

Providing the Guitar Army with its rhythmic fire power are veteran Oklahoma players Dave Copenhaver (the Army's "Bass Commander" and member of Brown's OKC based trio "Body Language"), along with the percussive artillery of Peter Pollack (the drummer of Brown's "Body Language" trio). Copenhaver is an Oklahoma native and veteran of 200 notable recording projects as producer and session/touring musician, including work with notable Tulsans Leon Russell and J.J. Cale. Pollack previously spent seven years as part of the Las Vegas "Blue Man Group" drumming/performance art entourage, and holds a PhD in percussion - making him a veritable "rock & roll 'doctor'."

Mayfest marks the first Oklahoma appearance for the Guitar Army. This is classic rock & roll at its finest, performed by highly decorated rock & roll veterans of many historic musical campaigns. Fans of Hendrix, classic rock and virtuoso guitarists to your battle stations -- for a night of rock & roll fireworks that will long be remembered.
